Remember To Remember

I’ve written plenty on here about the huge amounts of mad spam I get, wrong phone calls and even wrong emails, but nearly every single week I get an item of wrong mail. Not because I have a particularly difficult address, either: there is no road name even remotely like mine for approximately 5 miles, but there are plenty of number 19s and it seems some oik at Bournemouth post office can’t read because they sort plenty of wrong number 19s into our postman’s run… Who is way too lazy to take it back and shoves it through our letterbox… Read More »Remember To Remember

NOT IN MY NAME

Two BNP members in the European Parliament? No thanks! As the ever-eloquent Charlton Brooker tweeted today, “BNP voters have ruined anniversary of D-Day by metaphorically pissing on the graves of all who died fighting the Nazis.” Amen. I cannot believe that apathy and so-called “protest votes” against the MPs expenses scandal have allowed a racist, fascist organisation like the BNP through the back door. And make no mistake: that is what they are – “voluntary repatriation for ethnic minorities”? Puh-lease. But then you know this, I’m preaching to the converted. So do something about it: sign your name to the… Read More »NOT IN MY NAME

I’ve Written A Screenplay. Now What?

Updated So, You’ve Written A Screenplay ‘I’ve written a screenplay, now what?’ is one of the top Google searches that leads writers to this blog. Plus Bang2writers write to me, asking me for ideas on what to do / where to send scripts they’ve written, so I thought it was time I put my thoughts on this in one place, once and for all … Enjoy!  1) Get Some Screenplay Feedback i) Getting it – do peer review You don’t have to pay for this, though you can if you want to.  Alternatively, you can do peer review aka a… Read More »I’ve Written A Screenplay. … And So It Rolls On

Interesting response to the idea of repetitive threads on the SP Screenwriters’ List this morning: Golly Gee Boys and Girls, oops Men and Women or is it Women and men? If you don’t like what’s written in the bulletin, you, with a tad of intelligence, can just, well maybe, it is possible you know, to use your brain and consider skipping the read. Many newbees to the site just might like the read, so shut up, pass onto the next note and so forth until you have digested your meal, had your third beer and be done with it. Grow… Read More »… And So It Rolls On

Remember to Remember

It’s Remembrance Sunday today and the eleventh hour of the eleventh month on Tuesday, so I hope you’ll take a moment to remember the servicemen and women who have died and suffered in war. Like most hippy-types I don’t technically agree with war and would hide my son in the attic or cellar rather than let him get conscripted into one, but I can still appreciate the massive sacrifices that have made on all our behalf, particularly in WW2. So please, at eleven o’ clock, remember the fallen and those who’ve been affected by the kind of sights and experiences… Read More »Remember to Remember

Shoot The Blogger

Let’s get one thing straight: Shooting People is a great resource for screenwriters, actors, filmmakers. I constantly recommend it to my newbie writing clients. It’s helped me personally no end – I’ve got script reading gigs from it, got discounts on various stuff, made contacts, begun friendships and collaborations, not to mention had hours of interesting reading each morning (I always either forget to check forums, or spend every waking hour on them, so think the arrival of the list each morning is a great idea). But as I’ve mentioned only recently and various Bloggers have discussed before around www.land… Read More »Shoot The Blogger

Save Kids’ TV Update: Government Response

Some of you will remember my efforts to get you all to sign an e-petition back in April to save Kids’ TV in Britain. It’s not that I don’t like or respect the quality of American, Australian or other imported television; I just think it’s important British children should watch British television, because they’re (wait for it), BRITISH. The fact that just 1% of Kids’ TV in Britain is produced in the UK is nothing short of scandalous in my view, meaning a whole generation of British children could become victims of Media Imperialism. This is not good for a… Read More »Save Kids’ TV Update: Government Response

Proof You CAN Make Your Voice Heard

When I got a letter yesterday on House of Commons headed notepaper, my heart was in my mouth. Was this some kind of summons to go up to London to be put in the stocks?? And for what??? Cripes! But no. It would seem my recent email imploring my local MP, Tobias Ellwood to save UK Kids’ TV actually got through and has been noted: Dear Lucy, Thank you for your email dated 11th April about public service broadcasting for children. I understand your concern about the lack of high quality, UK-produced children’s content on television. British-made children’s programmes have… Read More »Proof You CAN Make Your Voice Heard

Save Kids’ TV UK-Style (Please)

The US, Australia and Europe make some great TV, no one can deny it. And growing up in the eighties and nineties, I certainly watched plenty of imported television: the likes of Sharky and George, Around The Twist, The Fresh Prince, Keenan and Kel and Even Stevens definitely eclipsed the Grange Hills and Byker Groves as far as I was concerned. Whilst my knowledge of American TV (and thus American mores and values) heightened my appreciation of the global village, this wasn’t 100% good. I’m not a USA/other country-basher by the way: there’s plenty we can learn from other countries,… Read More »Save Kids’ TV UK-Style (Please)

Virtual Solidarity: Good Luck WGA

Well, the Bournemouth rally came to nothing sadly but thanks to all the writers who took the time to email me and express their solidarity and best wishes for the WGA. I did have a picture of me and the wee girl demonstrating our solidarity but sadly the bloody lead thingy that will send it from my hubby’s phone to the PC has gone bloody AWOL! I blame the boy since he was seen with the lead last. I tortured him by tying him to a chair last night and putting his favourite jelly hamburger sweets just out of reach… Read More »Virtual Solidarity: Good Luck WGA
