Marketing YOU

I found this online… Whilst it is actually about working in business in an office (shudder), I think a lot of transfers nicely to a Scribe and how they market themselves and their work. Enjoy.———————————————— Develop a marketable corporate person: Think of yourself as a publicist with the task of promoting you. Learn to capitalise on your skills, succinctly assert your achievements and project a corporate persona. Giulio Andreotti, seven times Prime Minister of Italy, used to say, “It is not important to be right; it is important that other people think you are right.” [So make others think you… Read More »Marketing YOU

New Updates On List of Wonder

It’s been a few months since The List was last updated and we have some sad news: Jim Mercurio’s fantastic web resource How To Write A Screenplay has gone to the great webstream in the sky. Nightmare! Our condolences to Jim – he says if ANYONE out in www.land saved any chunks of text from his website, PLEASE get in touch with him: send any emails to me and I’ll pass them on. Let’s hope he can get his website up and running again ASAP since that was one of my faves on the list. So, congrats to Scott The… Read More »New Updates On List of Wonder

Stuff of Interest

They say opportunities are like buses… After posting the one for IPTV yesterday, here’s a couple more to feast your eyes on. Scottish soap River City is looking for a Script Editor. If it wasn’t set in Glasgow, I’d be biting their hands off, but everyone knows you gotta eat haggis every day up there as it’s a matter of national pride and anyway, kilts were so last year dah-link (as David Bishop and Miss Read know). But if you’re not into fashion and love eating sheep’s intestines, go for it with my blessing. Check it out here. Many thanks… Read More »Stuff of Interest

THE ROYAL TAPES, Writing For Radio

I carted myself off to Bristol last night for the workshop for the BBC Royal Tapes, an opportunity from The Writers’ Room in conjunction with BBC Radio Five Live. It proved an interesting night, though disappointingly no one in the crowd seemed “up” for networking. I spoke to a few people outside, but inside the actual room there was a sombre and intent air of the thirty or so present. Though most took copious notes, so I guess I’m going to have some mean competition – not least because there were other workshops that week in places like Newcastle and… Read More »THE ROYAL TAPES, Writing For Radio

Scrib – O – Meet

Okay, both Jason and Piers have been cyber-bullying me into organising another Scribosocial, despite the plain fact they both live in bloody London and I’m the Outsider. But we all know women are better at organising stuff than men – and let’s face it fellas, better all round! ; ) – so here we go, three things for ya. 1.Tell me when’s a good date for you.2. Tell me where you want to meet.3. Tell me what it is you want to do – meal, drinking, debauchery, poking gerbils with sticks etc. I’m sure we can cater for all tastes.… Read More »Scrib – O – Meet

Top Ten Unproduced Movies

So you’ve written a wicked spec script. It rocks. You are the wo/man. Everybody loves you. Hell, maybe you even have some critical acclaim on other “big” movies, perhaps an Oscar nomination or two. Maybe this spec’s even been bought! You’re well on your way to fame, fortune and becoming a household name… Right? Wrong. It would seem you can be the best spec writer in the world and still not get made. Several times over, even. Ouch. Read it and weep, my friends.

A Marathon, Not A Sprint

If you’re wanting a little career guidance or want to check you’re doing what you should be doing regarding this ol’ screenwriting lark, you could do a lot worse than read this article. It’s long (22 pages, and a pdf) but very engaging and worth saving on your desktop to dip into in coffee breaks. Remember, if you want your fave article or even one of your own on The Bang2write List of Wonder, then email me the link! We’re particularly low on ones about effective dialogue. Equally, if you’d like to see ones on a particular topic that you… Read More »A Marathon, Not A Sprint
