What Are YOUR Writing Goals?
Setting achievable writing goals is a MUST for any writer. I’ve written before on this blog that writing goals also need to be ‘concrete’ … In other words, it’s not enough to just say we want to do something! We have to figure out HOW we are going to get it done as well.
It’s important to remember that whatever your ambitions are as a creative writer, your ability to achieve them depends on more than just willpower. This is especially true when it comes to larger, more complex goals.
Thinking big is great, but having a strategic plan of attack makes all the difference in not only reaching your most audacious goals, but doing so efficiently and effectively.
In the face of larger and more long-term goals, it can be easy to get lost in the weeds along the way and wind up off track. Thatβs why utilizing a system that will keep you focused and steadily moving towards your goal is critical.
The 4DX Method
One system, called the 4DX Method, helps you do just that.
The 4DX method is an execution methodology based on four critical components of execution …
- Focus
- Leverage
- Engagement and
- Accountability
When used correctly, these four components allow you to find more clarity, sustainability, and momentum on the path towards your goals.
B2W and 4DX
I had no idea that this method existed … but I was pleasantly surprised to learn I’d essentially been using it already! Here’s how …
- Focus – I’ve always been of the belief ‘laser focus’ is the key to getting stuff done.
- Leverage – yup, I’ve never been very interested in past performance either. Instead I like to plan ahead when setting writing goals.
- Engagement – yup, this seems like my notion of ‘concrete goals‘, but also a measure to evaluate progress.
- Accountability – like this idea of ‘course correct’, it’s something I use outlining and planning to do to avoid what I call ‘The Story Swamp.’
The results speak for themselves!
