I Took Another Bubble Bath. With My Pants On.

Is that the weirdest song lyric you’ve ever heard? Prince, The Ballad of Dorothy Parker on Sign O’ The Times. I’ve had that album for years and years and years and it’s only today I think, “Eh?”

Also, is it really his pants he’s taking a bath in or his trousers? ‘Cos the latter would be somewhat weirder than the former, don’t you think? Maybe it’s just me.

Well anyway, even if The Purple One is a little strange and has a penchant for bathing semi-clothed, he’s a pretty good storyteller. Listen to the song here {sign up required for full version, otherwise it’s a clip].

Have a good weekend.

  1. I will draw your attention to lyrics far weirder my lovely lovely:

Mmm bop, ba duba dop Ba du bop, ba duba dop Ba du bop, ba duba dop
    Ba du

I take baths in my trousers all the time by the way. It’s a guy thing.

    Darren

  2. How about:

The reflex is an only child he’s waiting in the park
The reflex is in charge of finding treasure in the dark
And watching over lucky clover isn’t that bizarre
Every little thing the reflex does
Leaves you answered with a question mark

    I mean ?????

  3. I love this song and I’m sure there are some that understand the lyrics. I’m not one.

“Deck the halls I’m young again
    I’m you again
    Racing turtles
    The grapefruit is winning…”

    -from Tori Amos’ Space Dog.

    Then there’s I Am The Walrus…

  4. Pants is underwear in American English.

Killer sheep, when you sleep, the sheep will follow you in your dreams and eat marsh mellows until you’re sallow, marsh mellows until you’re sallow, woh is the killer sheep.

  5. I had a similar moment listening to Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds in the car the other day.

I was well into the dum-dum-dums when all of a sudden Richard Burton said the ‘Horses bits were covered in foam’.

    Never noticed that line before.

  6. hi, just came across this even though it’s quite a bit since you posted it.

Prince, an American, is taking a bath in his trousers. I just heard someone explain the difference on a talk show the other day – that on my side of the pond “pants” are called “underwear” where “trousers” are called “pants”.

    just fyi : )

and yes, it is indeed odd, but this is Prince we’re talking about
